History of Faculty of Engineering

In 1924, Yamanashi National College of Technology (Kokuritsu Yamanashi Koutou Kougyou Gakkou) was developed, and then changing its name to Yamanashi Senmon Gakkou, our Faculty of Engineering was established as a part of University of Yamanashi in 1949. In 1965, Graduate School of Engineering Master programs was developed. Thereafter, PhD programs were developed in 1992. In 2003, Interdisciplinary Graduate School of Medicine and Engineering (Master and PhD programs) was established. Aiming for development of human resources who can respond to social demand such as progress of science technology, sophisticated academics, diversity of industrial technology and sustainable development of the society, we conduct education and research for high levels of expert knowledge and broad general education in seven departments consisting of Mechanical Systems Engineering, Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Computer Science and Media Engineering, Civil and Environmental Engineering, Applied Chemistry, Biotechnology, and Ecosocial System Engineering. More than 30,000 alumni and alumnae are actively working for industry and academics. After graduation of these departments, students can also apply for the Master programs in Department of Education, Interdisciplinary Graduate School of Medicine and Engineering.
