This program provides comprehensive studies targeting the development of new and highly-functional materials which are key to the national development subjects in Japan, as we strive to lead the world in science and technology, as well as development and research in advanced nanodevices for further development of the information society. We offer a series of academic fields and also foster creative human resources that can connect advanced knowledge and technology to new fields of industry. This program consists of "Dept. of Materials Design Chemistry", "Dept. of Innovational Electronics" and "Dept. of Functional Materials Creation Technology".
In "Dept. of Materials Design Chemistry", through education and studies on chemical material energy, information, movement and transduction mechanism of materials, we fosters human resources that have a high degree of knowledge and the latest advanced technology on functional materials.
In "Dept. of Innovational Electronics", we foster human resources that have the capacity to understand advanced technology of photon electric engineering and boundary and/or neighboring technology which are necessary for future technological innovations and can respond to the new age.
In "Dept. of Functional Materials Creation Technology", we foster human resources that can develop technology on the basic technology and these integrated areas to enable humans to be actively in harmony with our natural environment.

• Optical and quantum electronics and ion beam technology
  Fundamentals and application of photon-atom interaction, particle-surface interaction, ion beam, plasma, and nanostructures

Dept. of Functional Materials Creation Technology

• Ultraprecision machining methods of brittle materials, thermoplastic resin for medical purpose and light metal materials
• Vision aid systems with application of image recognition and manufacturing and operation strategy of autonomous robot
• Analysis and design of high efficiency LCD backlight resource and light-scattering property of fine particle compound powder
