Biotechnology

Fostering Specialist for Biotechnology and Enology

Investigation in biological phenomena to clarify the mechanism of its energy, information, material transportation and transformation, and applying them to biotechnology will greatly impact our lives. This major is comprised of two courses; bio-functional engineering course and enology synthetic science course which cultivate students with advanced knowledge and latest technique related to biological function, food, and wine.

Bio-functional Engineering Course

Students learn the basic knowledge and the latest experimental methods such as microbiological engineering, cytoengineering, genetic engineering, molecular biology, and bio-organic-chemistry. They will further learn methodology for solving various challenges such as; developing functions of microorganisms, animal, and plant cells; restoring the environment of Earth; securing energy and food; improving safety and functionality of food; improvement in health. Additionally, they will search for useful microorganisms, animal/plant cell functions and conduct research aimed for application in bio-industry from a "production" viewpoint.

Enology Integrated Chemistry Course

Along with learning latest biotechnology, students will learn advanced professional knowledge and techniques in enology. By mastering one subject matter, they will also gain problem solving skills and creativity required for engieers and researchers. Additionally, we have established enology courses, including special subjects such as winery internship and short term study abroad program at the center for Lifelong Training School for Wine Related Human Resources (Special Coordination Funds for Promoting Science and Technology from the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology regional revival human resource training center project). We work on fostering enology and viticulture specialist with passion in wine production.
