Civil and Environmental Engineering

Visit Website of this Department

You learn how to create an environment where humans can coexist with nature.

"Civil & Environmental Engineering" is an essential field of academic study to organize social infrastructure which forms an affluent society and conserves the environment.
The regional disaster prevention technology protects the social security and the construction technology of infrastructures supports the economy and society. These have been dramatically developed as can be seen in roads, bridges, railroads, tunnels, rivers, ports and harbors, artificial islands and urban development. Recently, more importance has been placed on issues of comfortable urban spaces, safe and delicious drinking water, as well as maintaining rivers richly reflecting nature, the water saving society, the recycling society, sewage systems and the purification of contaminated materials. This is the era of environmental awareness, and ideal material circulation, resource and energy saving, waste management, the coexistence of all living things, and the establishment of environmental ethics are also issues of civil and environmental engineering.
In order to foster engineers who can adequately handle these social issues, the Civil & Environmental Engineering provides the Civil Engineering Course and the Environmental Engineering Course. Students who enter this department select either course at the latter part of the 2nd year and learn civil and environmental engineering in their selected course.
A balance of basic subjects and application subjects are combined in the curriculum for this department during the limited period of 4 years. After students study the basic subjects which are common to civil and environmental engineering, they then select their own specialized field from 6 special fields: material engineering, structural engineering, geotechnical engineering, hydraulic and water resources engineering, transportation and urban planning engineering, and environmental engineering. The curriculums are designed to ensure a wide range of knowledge which can be applied to other specialized fields.

※This course is certified with the JABEE. The alumni are automatically JABEE educational program graduates.

Civil Engineering Course

Civil engineering is an academic study on structures which are necessary for human society. Technologies necessary to design, build, maintain and manage structures are systematically organized. In this course, students gain knowledge and technology related to environmental engineering based on subjects of structure engineering, hydraulic engineering, geotechnical engineering, transportation engineering, and civil materials. The main purpose of this course is to foster civil engineers who understand environmental engineering.

Environmental Engineering Course

Students in this course study the environmental engineering based on the hardware of civil engineering. This course features urban planning, scenery, weather, water resources, water and sewerage, measurement of contaminated materials, purification of contamination by microorganisms and living resource protection, as well as provides technologies which promote the coexistence of humans and nature. At the same time, students learn technologies which make life safer and more comfortable along with the study of waste treatment. . We are aiming at fostering environment engineers who understand civil engineering.
