JABEE

Approach in JABEE program

What is JABEE?

JABEE is an abbreviation of the Japan Accreditation Board for Engineering Education, which is called "Nihon Gijyutsu Kyouiku Nintei Kikoh" in Japanese.
Aiming for contribution to development of the society and industry through improvement in engineering education and fostering international level engineers, JABEE was developed in November, 1999 to conduct accreditation of engineering education programs in higher education institutions and maintain the international equivalence in education levels based on a unified standard. Its main activity is to accredit that education in a higher education institution maintains a sufficient level and the educational accomplishments clear the minimal levels of knowledge and ability (minimum requirement) to train actively working engineers (professional accreditation).
Accreditation of JABEE is conducted fairly by external institutions on an engineering education program provided in a department or a course in Faculty of Engineering. Therefore, once a department or a course is accredited by JABEE, the quality of its graduates as well as the education programs is highly assured.
