Applied Chemistry

Creating High Functional Materials and Developing Clean Energy

Students engage in the state-of-the-art academic research contributing to future humanity.
The applied chemistry, ranging from commodity goods to latest materials and high functional materials supporting the state-of-the-art technologies, is the most important discipline that could contribute to the development of humanity and solve various energy and environmental problems which modern societies are suffering from.
This major is composed of two large courses. Students conduct researches that are related to the frontier chemistry that contain keywords such as material, energy, and environment. Along with this research, the department will cultivate people with rich creativity that could contribute to sustainable industrial development and human welfare through unique state-of-the-art academic researches such as creation of new materials and high functional materials, and development of clean energy. Students will learn basic knowledge on theory and research for their professions and foster accurate problem solving and application ability required for highly specialized engieer.
Teachers responsible for this major have created new materials and high functional materials that are the base of 21st century industry. They have also developed highly efficient / non-polluting energy use technology that is inevitable for conserving/restoring the environment of Earth as well as surface technology, and actively pursued in latest important challenges such as development of ultra trace material analysis, which are inevitable for conserving/restoring the environment on Earth and have greatly succeeded. The teachers of Clean Energy Research Center, which are studying fuel cells and solar cells, and Crystal Science Research Center which is studying nonorganic materials with special function, are also sharing their educational studies and provide their highly specialized education.
